Performance and Instruction
Kari Lee's performing skills and teaching abilities keep her active in today's music scene. Her performing credentials include concerts with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under esteemed conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Sir Georg Solti and Valery Gergiev. She has also performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago in several grand opera productions.
In addition to her local performing activities, Mrs. Lee has performed throughout the United States, Canada, South America, Europe and the Soviet Union. Mrs. Lee toured and recorded with Grammy-winning artist David Phelps from 2010-2020 as the trumpet player in his band and has also been a member of the Millar Brass Ensemble since 1989. Her recording credentials include twelve CDs with David Phelps, four CDs with the Millar Brass Ensemble and two CDs with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to performing, Mrs. Lee also enjoys a thriving teaching career. Her private studio includes students 4th grade through college and her teaching credentials include Music Institute of Chicago, Elmhurst College, Northern Illinois University and Wheaton College.
Mrs. Lee is also co-founder of CAP, a community arts initiative in partnership with the FUMC Elmhurst Clothing closet. CAP provides free breakfast, musicianship classes, private piano and private trumpet instruction to community children whose parents are utilizing the clothing closet.
